Everything has gotten more expensive recently, and that might have you wanting to make more money.
If you need or want to make more money in 2025, I’ve got three strategies for you to use to make that happen.
Make Money Off Of Things You Already Do
The easiest way to make more money in 2025 is to earn money from things that already exist in your routine. And no, that’s not a get rich quick sales line! Here’s a few examples.
If you shop online, you can make money from that. I use a browser embed called Rakuten that earns me cashback on certain purchases when I buy something online.
Unsurprisingly, the more an item costs, the more cashback you’ll earn. It’s a small but consistent amount of money, especially if you order weekly items like groceries online.
Earning money from your savings account is another way to make more money in 2025 without more effort.
Everyone should have an HYSA, which stands for “high yield savings account.” the yield, aka the interest, is money you earn from the bank simply by keeping your cash there.
If you have $1,000 in a savings account earning 4% a year, you’ll earn $40 totally for free.
I have used several different HYSA’s over the years. Interest rates change over time, depending on decisions made at the Federal Reserve.
I’ve used Ally Bank, Wealthfront, and CapitalOne.
Finally, using a credit card with a strong rewards program is a way to make your money work smarter, not harder.
Credit cards offer rewards program as an incentive to choose their card and stay with the company over time.
These rewards might be cashback on purchases, discount on hotels, or rewards that add up to things like free flights.
I’ve used CapitalOne cards for 11 years because of their reward program and customer service.
When I bought my house, I opened a CapitalOne Venture X card. It does have a $350 annual fee, but it also offers a $300 annual travel credit.
Plus, I earn 2x rewards on any purchase, 5x rewards on flights and rentals booked through CapitalOne, and 10x rewards on hotels and rental cars booked through CapitalOne.
So by simply booking my annual Christmas flights in 2024, I earned almost enough points to pay for my 2025 Christmas flights. Plus, throughout the year I earn points on everything from gas to groceries to paying my electric bill.
These are all ways to make more money in 2025 off of things you likely already do. They are small but consistent money wins for you.
Diversify How You Make Money
If you currently have one full time job but feel like you don’t make enough money, you might want to consider a side hustle.
To be frank, side hustles can also be called part time jobs. It’s just a way of earning money from something other than your full time job.
Sides hustles can be anything from babysitting to earning money via social media. (We’ve got a list of side hustles that can earn you $2,000 a month here.)
While it’s sad that in the richest country in the world many people feel the need to work multiple jobs (or literally need to work multiple jobs to survive), earning money from more than one place is a good idea.
If you get fired from one job, you have a source of income from your second. You aren’t left without a way to pay at least some of your bills.
This is especially important during recessions. If you’re worried that a recession may mean you get laid off, look into starting a recession proof side hustle.
Earn More But Do The Same Amount Of Work
This is the dream right? To be paid more money but not have to do more work.
This is of course, the hardest to pull off. But it’s by no means impossible!
In this case, you want to look for a way to compliment the work you already do with something that can increase your pay.
For example, if you work in an office you could ask for extra compensation to create or manage an office inventory.
With automation, this is something that would need very little of your attention, but be a big organizational win for the office.
You can also negotiate a pay raise based on your performance. We have an in depth guide on how to negotiate here, but let’s cover the most important tips below.
–Show your value through proof. You likely won’t get a raise based on how long you’ve been there. Show your boss the ways that you’ve earned the company money, saved the company money, or made the company a better place to work. Things like positive client feedback, successful projects, and high performance reviews work in your favor.
-Ask before they set the annual budget. Don’t wait until the end of the year to ask for a raise. By then, the next years budget has likely already been set. Ask in the summer or early fall.
-Know your number and ask for it. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Set the tone in the meeting and don’t leave your raise up to your boss to come up with. While you might not get what you ask for, at least you asked for what makes sense for you!
